We are deeply saddened to share the news that our beloved companion, pet, and shop dog, Red, has passed away suddenly. We adopted Red from Albuquerque’s east side animal shelter when he was 2. If you have visited our showroom over the last 10 years, you may have had the good fortune to meet Red. Maybe you had the opportunity to give him treats, rub his belly, or really win big and play his favorite game chasing the laser pointer. Red loved greeting customers in our showroom. We always said he was a working dog and that he understood his important role in our business. Over the years, customers, delivery personnel, friends, and family have made stops at the showroom to say hello to Brooke and me, but more importantly to see Red. Occasionally we would even have customers recognize us on our afternoon and weekend hikes through the open space on Albuquerque’s east side. It’s a wonderful feeling to have a companion and pet that is so widely appreciated and loved. We already miss him dearly at home and at work.

We would like to thank the staff at VCA on Montgomery. Their care, kindness, and dedication throughout Red’s life were remarkable. They seem to love the animals in their care as much as we do.

Finally, if you’re thinking about a pet, perhaps consider a shelter animal. Red brought an incredible amount of joy to our lives over the last decade. He was loyal, fun, adventurous, and loving. I’m sure there is a shelter pet out there that fits the bill in your life too.

We loved every minute of his time with us.

Don and Brooke Nutting

Red’s Human

In 2011, Don and Brooke decided they wanted to add a dog to their family. They went to several shelters, and that’s where they met Red. He was a little timid at first, but he had big, beautiful eyes that watched them with curiosity, and they decided that he was the one. It was perfect timing; they adopted him on Valentine’s Day.

Red quickly became a familiar face at The Natural Lighting Company showroom. Curious and playful, people soon came to expect him there, listening for his bark that was always quickly followed by him playfully bounding around the room in excitement. His gentle nature makes him a welcomed addition to the store.

Whether lying in the afternoon sun or playing ball, Red is a cherished member of The Natural Lighting Company team, and a wonderful mascot. In January of 2014, Red became the official mascot of The Natural Lighting Company, and memes were created depicting Red and his love for the Solatube products. His funny cartoons are often posted on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheNaturalLightingCo. Check out his adventures and send us a post about what you think.

Red Says “Hi”
If you haven’t been in lately, you might not have noticed Red’s new relaxed for summer attitude! While he still loves to see everyone, he has now started greeting them from the comfort of his bed. Red’s entered his golden years and is a bit more relaxed, so if he doesn’t come up to greet you, just know he’s still happy you’re here! He’s also started following the latest fashion trend and is letting his muzzle show some salt and pepper. If you haven’t seen him in a while, stop in and show him some love today.

The Natural Lighting Company serves Albuquerque, Belen, Bernalillo, Bernalillo County, Cibola County, Dona Ana County, East Mountains, Gallup, Grants, Las Cruces, Los Lunas, McKinley County, Sandoval County, Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, Socorro County, Torrance County, and Valencia County.
